Voice over LTE is the transmission of data associated with voice over a framework based on architecture which delivers relevant IP multimedia services. Similarly, circuit switched fallback (CSFB) is a technology which is used in delivering short message service and voice services to devices enabled with LTE using circuit switched networks and GSM. On the other hand, Simultaneous Voice and LTE (SVLTE) is a technical protocol and standard which is used to enable the usage of both voice and data networks together on the same device which is using CDMA voice network and LTE data network. Whereas VOLGA (Voice over LTE via Generic Access) is a technological approach which is used to achieve and deliver short message service as well as voice services alongside LTE networks. In addition, SRVCC is a technological standard which is mandatorily required in the voice over LTE systems in order to allow packet domain calls on the LTE devices to transmit data through legacy circuit switched voice seamlessly. Such legacy circuit switched voice include CDMA 1x, GSM, and UMTS among others. Voice over LTE enables mobile network operators to provide with video, rich voice and efficient messaging services as a main offering. Voice over LTE allows the operators to employ data network in order to transmit voice services in relatively small sized packets. It also aids in increasing the overall efficiency of spectrum and helps in reducing the maintenance and operational costs since only one network is used in voice over LTE.
Over the recent years, North America has witnessed a widespread use and adoption of voice over LTE technology. The U.S. voice over LTE market has witnessed significant growth and is anticipated to continue to be a trendsetter in global voice over LTE market. U.S. is anticipated to account for the biggest share in the North America voice over LTE market in coming years. On the other hand, developing regions such as Asia-Pacific and LAMEA offer great potential opportunities to the established and establishing players in the global voice over LTE market. In addition, there is an increasing demand for voice over LTE systems, especially from mobile companies for cloud UC (Unified Communications) and mobile solutions due to faster speeds of their network. Furthermore, emerging economies of Middle East & Africa such as South Africa, GCC, Turkey etc. are some other key regions posing bright opportunities in the global voice over LTE market.
The global voice over LTE market can be segmented on the basis of technology, end user, vertical and region. On the basis of technology, the global voice over LTE market can be segmented into frequency division duplexing and time division duplexing. On the basis of end user, the global voice over LTE market can be segmented into smartphones, routers, dongles and others. On the basis of vertical, the global voice over LTE market can be segmented into circuit switched fallback, voice over IP multimedia sub system, and dual radio and simultaneous voice and LTE. On the basis of region, the global voice over LTE market can be segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East & Africa (MEA) and Asia-Pacific.
Major players operating in the global voice over LTE market are focusing on some key market strategies such as mergers and acquisitions to keep hold in the ever competitive market. Moreover, they are concentrating on collaborating with local players to increase their market reach as well as strengthen their goodwill in the global market. The major players in the global voice over LTE market include Nokia Solutions and Networks, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Ericsson, Verizon Wireless (Verizon Communications), Alcatel-Lucent S.A., Aptilo Networks, MetroPCS Communications, Inc., LG Uplus Corporation, KT Corporation, Mitel Networks Corporation and AT&T Inc. among others.
