Introduction

Sodium Thiocyanate is also known as sodium rhodonate, sodium sulphocyanide, thiocyanic acid, and sodium rhodanide, among others. It is a chemical compound which has a formula NaSCN and appears to be white powder or colorless. This powder can be easily dissolved with ethanol, acetone and water. It is orthorhombic shaped crystal which has melting point of 287 degree Celsius and relative density 1.735. On heating under light sodium thiocyanate decomposes and produces harmful gases of sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxides and cyanides. Also vigorously reacts with strong bases, strong oxidants and acids. Due to these existing properties of sodium thiocyanate, it is used in wide range of applications in various end-user industries. Industries such as fiber, pharmaceutical, architecture, personal care products and pesticide among others are the major customer of sodium thiocyanate market.

Market Dynamics

Sodium thiocyanate is used for various applications right from building and construction industry to personal care products. One of the major industry i.e. pharmaceutical industry has highly contributed to the heavy growth of sodium thiocyanate market. High demand of pharmaceutical industry for sodium thiocyanate is driving the growth of global market. Sodium thiocyanate is used in construction for concrete and cement mixes as it is known for its hardening accelerator property. Other industries such as personal care products and pesticide are also expected to boost the demand for sodium thiocyanate in forthcoming period.

Market Classification and Overview

The market can be classified on the basis of application, types and geography. By application, the Sodium thiocyanate market can be segmented into polyacrylonitrile fiber spinning solvent, chemical analysis reagent, defoliants, propylene fiber and color film rinses. On the basis of geography, the Sodium thiocyanate market can be segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East & Africa (MEA) and Asia-Pacific.  Key applications of sodium thiocyanate are architecture, pharmaceutical, fiber, personal care products, pesticide, and others.
